A safe choice

The innovative Lumina A-IOL (accommodative intraocular lens) not only restores your vision for far but also your focus for near. The Lumina is CE-certified and meets the legal requirements for medical implants in the eye. A number of selected European clinics are now working with the Lumina (reference date: June 2023). As the manufacturer continues to conduct further research, there is an opportunity for a limited number of people to participate. You can read about what we expect from you below. Register now

The research project you will take part in

The experiences and results of the Lumina will be explored in more detail with this study. Do you qualify for a lens replacement, for example because you have cataract complaints, and is your interest sparked by the Lumina? If you want to participate in our study for two years, we will offer you a Lumina in exchange, free of charge. The research process is as follows:

  1. Introduction and explanation of procedure

  2. Preliminary examination and eye measurements

  3. Implantation Lumina

  4. Follow-up examination

  5. Check-up and eye examination after 1 week and 4 weeks

  6. Check-up and eye examination after 3, 6 and 12 months

  7. Check-up and eye examination after 2 years

Good to know

The Lumina has already been successfully tested in several clinical trials. The supervisor of the clinical programme and principal investigator is Prof. Jorge L. Alió, MD PhD, FEBO of the Vissum Instituto Oftalmológico de Alicante. As of 2021, the Lumina is CE-registered as an IOL that corrects presbyopia (Notified Body: TÜV Rheinland, Germany). Currently, the Lumina is being marketed through a selected number of eye clinics in Europe.
